This place was supposed to assess people. However, with one shrink to ALL the patients on BOTH wards and the staff drinking tea in the office, not sure how. Maybe they rewound the camera footage and observed patients that way? I spent 5 minutes with the shrink before I was stamped with BPD and swiftly 'discharged' (aka kicked out). Maybe it was the chaplain who assessed people because he was the only one who could be bothered to say more than 2 syllables to people. Although telling unstable people that they WILL go to heaven may not be the most sensible conversation to have.

They were not able/willing to facilitate my dietary needs so I left half a stone lighter than when I went in (good for xmas though). They did have cooking facilities in the activity room but it seemed too much effort to use this. This room was the only room with some colour in, even if it was only the paper chains the patients had made. In fact, it resembled my child's nursery. The staff would only get medicine at certain times so god help you if you were already in an established pill routine before you went in- hence why I hid my pills until I was ready to take them. I had a hangover (acquired in there) and the staff refused to get me some paracetamol until it was the official medicine time. Easy to sneak in alcohol (even after a body search), drugs, e.t.c. Had cameras but seemed to be for decoration only as I stood in front of one dismantling the electrics (with my finger nails) and wasn't picked up?!

The treatment is poor , the staff are untrained arrogant, and to be completely honest a bunch of imbeciles, if you end up there dont expect adequate help because these People are incapable of providing that to a suitable standard. Somerset is not the place for people with mental health i am afraid.

Bpd sufferer= they turn their back on you with a click of fingers. At first they seem very helpful and caring then they turn and massively mess you right up. They do sod all to help your recovery except dosing you up on meds and don't even give you the meds your usually on at home on admission and never get it right no matter how much you stress the issue. The office is their hideout they hardly even acknowledge you let alone talk to you about what's wrong it's like pulling teeth trying to get anything worthwhile from them. Hope you don't have to go here if so I hope your one who has a helpful admission unlike soooo many I know

I suffered this place for 2 weeks in December. Very cold, bleak, place with no atmosphere whatsoever. I wasn't expecting a circus but maybe a little more life than a morgue would have made my stay slightly better. There was nobody to speak to (unless you were lucky enough to hear voices inside your head), the staff were sat in the office constantly and you were left to wander around going crazier by the minute. The only time the staff held a conversation was to tell me to return my hair straightners which I often had for days at a time.

An experience which I think would be damaging to most, especially those with mental health issues. If you want to lose weight, smoke like a chimney, have no human interaction and find innovative ways of trying to kill yourself, I would highly recommend. However, although grateful for the weight loss, not so grateful for the incorrect diagnosis which is given to everyone who is slightly crazy and does not fit into any other box. The only relief I got was when I was comatosed for several days after taking another patient's pills which was fine until he escaped. Never again! Left more depressed/more at risk than when I went in, hence calling the police to go into custody on New Years day as that was preferable and safer than Rydon!

I was attacked by another patient although credit where it's due, they then allocated 2 members of staff to this woman, even if it did take 3 separate attacks.

The staff are brilliant.
